Navigating the Legal System: My Journey with My Son's Father Ansouzinho lee
Dealing with the legal system can be overwhelming, especially when it involves family matters. My experience with my son's father and the courts has been a challenging path filled with lessons, frustrations, and moments of clarity. Sharing this journey may help others facing similar situations understand what to expect and how to prepare.
But First A Message From A Mother:
This video was taken in the courthouse by Chervica Frederick documenting her journey in the second half of her child custody case for her son Julián. This video was originally shared on Instagram.
How much is enough a message from a mother who is deadbeat from dealing with a man who's showing tendencies of a deadbeat!
As I stand at the foothills of court, I felt guilty about having my son in a courthouse. But a few kind souls reminded me: why should I feel terrible about a situation I did not create when I made so many attempts to settle things before it ever got this far?
What’s crazy is that Ansou Goudiaby (Ansou Papis Lee) thought that while I gave him a chance—believing I was seeing a single man with no children and no hidden life—that I did not deserve the truth beforehand all these years of friendship with intentional lies. Before we even got to this point, we went out. He spoke about his sister, his soccer goals with Cholsum FC, but nothing more. It's funny how I asked, and there was no response about the biggest part of your life
It's hard hearing one-sided narratives; however, I'm adult enough to understand this is what some people do to make themselves look good.
I felt sorry for the others involved, who else thought they were seeing a single man? Ansouzinho Lee? Or was it just me?. And while I now know he has been married since 2015, despite believing I wasn’t worthy of the truth, others thought I was. For that level of kindness, honesty, and humanity, I am grateful.
I know my situation is not unique, but I’m sharing my story because navigating deceit, pregnancy, and a person who has consistently prioritized themselves, their desires, and what they want ahead of what is right has taught me something important: I have to stand tall for my son.
People always say "single mother" or focus on a "fatherless home." The math is simple: yes, a single mother. Yes, a fatherless home. But also a home built on healthy habits, stability, safety, and love.
Because I am not willing to reduce my son’s worth to seeing someone once a month in a McDonald’s and calling that fatherhood.
So here’s to having these conversations openly. Here’s to calling things what they are. Here’s to choosing truth over appearances, accountability over excuses, and protecting our children above all else.
And here’s to standing tall—even when the path leads through a courtroom—because some battles are bigger than us. They’re about the future we build for our children.
Thank you Ansouzinho lee for giving me the push to share my story.

Understanding the Legal Process
When conflicts arise between parents, the legal system often becomes the arena for resolution. At first, I was unfamiliar with the steps involved, which made the process feel intimidating. Here are some key stages I encountered:
Filing Petitions: Initiating legal action requires submitting formal documents to the court. This step sets the process in motion but demands careful attention to detail.
Mediation and Negotiation: Courts often encourage parents to resolve disputes outside of trial through mediation. This can save time and reduce stress but requires willingness from both parties.
Court Hearings: If mediation fails, hearings allow a judge to make decisions on custody, visitation, and support. These sessions are formal and require preparation.
Knowing these stages helped me anticipate what was coming and gather the necessary information and support.
Challenges Faced Along the Way
The legal journey was not without obstacles. Some of the difficulties I faced included:
Communication Barriers: Misunderstandings and lack of clear communication with my son's father complicated negotiations.
Emotional Stress: The process was emotionally draining, affecting my well-being and decision-making.
Legal Jargon: Understanding complex legal terms was tough, making it necessary to seek professional advice.
Despite these challenges, staying focused on my son's best interests kept me motivated.
Practical Tips for Others in Similar Situations
Based on my experience, here are some practical suggestions for navigating the legal system effectively:
Document Everything: Keep detailed records of interactions, agreements, and incidents. This documentation can be crucial in court.
Seek Legal Advice: Consulting with a family law attorney can clarify your rights and options.
Stay Child-Centered: Always prioritize your child's needs and well-being in decisions and discussions.
Prepare for Hearings: Organize your thoughts, evidence, and questions beforehand to present your case clearly.
Use Support Networks: Lean on friends, family, or support groups to manage stress and gain perspective.
These steps helped me maintain control and advocate effectively.
The Importance of Patience and Persistence
Legal matters involving family can take time to resolve. Patience is essential as I navigated delays, rescheduling, and unexpected developments. Persistence ensured I do not give up when situations seemed discouraging.
Each small victory, such as custody but giving his father the benefit to do the right thing financially is still a win because I know the courts will deal with that part and it's out of my hands. Recognizing that the process is often slow but purposeful helped me stay grounded.
Reflecting on the Outcome
While the journeys is difficult, it led to clearer understanding of what I want for my son's future. The legal system provided a framework to protect my son's interests and establish boundaries.
I learned that understanding the system, preparing thoroughly, and focusing on my son's needs can make a significant difference on how I fight for him. The experience also highlighted the importance of emotional resilience and seeking help when needed.
